Macmillan goes continental at Pownall Hall School

Raising money for charity is always greeted with enthusiasm at Pownall Hall School and this year the Macmillan charity coffee morning coincided with the Wilmslow school's European Languages Day.

The children went to school wearing blue, white and red and many brought in a French flag. The day started with a French themed breakfast in the school dining room which was open to pupils, parents, staff and visitors. They were treated to croissants, pain au chocolat, jam and coffee - which raised a fantastic £123 for the charity.

During the day the children participated in French themed lessons and activities and they enjoyed a French style lunch which consisted of coq-au-vin, mange tout and french fries, followed with cheese and biscuits.

Headmaster Jonathan Hall says "It is important all children learn a different language, and today has helped to emphasise the contrast between different cultures within the European Union.

"We saw today as an ideal opportunity to combine European Languages Day with the Macmillan Cancer charity which we whole heartedly support every year."
