Record numbers attend Wilmslow Show

This weekend's 99th Wilmslow Show proved to be a tremendous success with just under 5000 people gathering to enjoy the fun packed show, which filled the entire playing field at Wilmslow High School.

Show organiser Frank McCarthy said "This was the best ever attendance by a long margin. We were of course very lucky with the weather but the better publicity we get now must be helping to tell the people of Wilmslow we actually exist."

The Classic Car Show, which provided an opportunity to enjoy the wonderful cars of the past, was a superb display of more than 250, whilst the Dog Show was bursting at the seams and the Horticultural Marquee, which is where it all started, was a show in its own right.

However for many the highlight was the flyover by the RAF Battle of Britain Flight's Dakota. The three low level passes were cheered by the crowd and RAF Flight Sergeant Paul Simonds later rang Frank McCarthy to say he could see the crowd waving back at him.

Frank explained "The one problem encountered was car parking, we ran out of space and several cars had to be turned away. This will not be a problem next year as the space currently occupied by North West Water will be vacated, allowing us to double the space available. The 6th Wilmslow Scouts who control the car parking did a magnificent job and were very upset at not being able to accommodate everyone.

"Our thoughts are now turning to planning next years show, which will be our 100th show! We hope to stage something very special and planning will start next week. It would be good to hear of any ideas our community would like to see at the show, and we would be delighted for any offers of help from anyone who would like to play a part."
