Mokee Joe comes to town

Peter Murray 017

Always keen to encourage a love of books, Wilmslow Preparatory School works closely with authors to ensure that reading remains an exciting and fun activity for girls at the School. The School’s latest author visit was certainly no exception.

This week, the girls were delighted to be visited by writer Peter Murray, the author of a number of children’s books including the ‘Mokee Joe’ trilogy who has inspired great enthusiasm in even the most reluctant readers. Peter read from his books and kept the girls fully entertained when acting out particular scenes and recounting tales from his childhood which inspired his work.

Perhaps the highlight of the sessions was when Peter put on a special pair of shoes, a long coat and black hat to become Mokee Joe, the 7ft tall character himself! “It is so exciting for the girls to meet with authors and we are grateful that Peter has found the time to visit us,” said Headmaster Paul Reynolds. “Many girls bought books from Peter and then asked him to sign them to make them even more special additions to their personal libraries.”
