Plans have been approved to enable a new concept mixed shop, café and takeaway to open in the two storey premises which was previously occupied by FootAsylum.

Permission has been granted to change the use of 13-15 Grove Street from retail (A1) to mixed retail, café and takeaway use (A1/A3/A5) to bring the vacant unit back into occupation by a new local business.

The scheme includes minor alterations to the shop fronts on Grove Street and Green Lane and an external seating area on Grove Street.

The application states "The ethos of the business is for a sustainable, eco /minimal plastic and low waste operation. Where possible, containers and cutlery will be of bamboo pulp or similar and recyclable. Any food waste will be macerated for composting or recyclable waste disposal and cardboard will be fattened and recycled."

The business will provide employment for up to 15 people and the proposed opening hours are 7am to 10.30pm seven days a week.

Undoubtedly an unpopular decision with the town's naysayers, but a great move in my opinion, especially with eco credentials and the products such a cafe is likely to provide. It'll add life to the town centre.

Don’t be pessimistic Gary. Let’s hope that it prospers and sets us all an example of how to not use plastic.

Looking forward to it. Just not keen on the inclusion of the lovely dogs for all sorts of reasons, people tripping and hygiene for two, can't be pleasant for the dogs either.
