Alderley girls celebrate A Level success

Alderley Edge School for Girls is delighted with another year of excellent A level results. With an overall pass rate of 100%, a third of all grades being an A or an A* and 96% of girls meeting their university offers, the girls have given themselves every opportunity to continue to flourish as they progress to university or to gap year experiences.

Outstanding individual successes include Helena Lewis who achieved 3 A* grades and is going to study Biological Sciences at Lancaster University. Ellie Jagger is going on to study Geography at the University of Liverpool after achieving 2 A* and 1 A grade. Whilst Scarlett Summerfield with 1 A* and 2 A grades is going to study Philosophy at University College Durham and Amy Rhodes is going on to study Medicine at the University of Sheffield with her 3 A grades, following a gap year in industry.

Students achieved straight A* grades across the board in Photography, A* or A grades in English Literature and Design Technology in addition to subjects such as Business, Geography and Spanish where all girls achieved A* to B grades.

Additionally, several girls chose to study beyond the curriculum by taking the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) and achieved outstanding success with projects examining topics as diverse as the social influence of the cocoa bean, the psychology and manufacturing of modern fashion and the causes of the English Reformation.

Helen Jeys, Headmistress at the school enthused, "I am delighted for the girls and all they have achieved. Our students are going onto study subjects at university as diverse as Medicine and Philosophy to Nursing, Sport Management, Interior Architecture, Commercial Photography and Art. This truly reflects the way our girls embrace a breadth of opportunity.

"They have achieved immense success while balancing significant responsibilities both inside and outside of school; from the success of our Head Girl Ellie Bancroft who is reading English at Exeter to those who balance their studies with representing sport at national level, I know that our girls will continue to flourish and be outstanding role models for future generations of girls at AESG."

The School is also keen to acknowledge the performance of Lower Sixth students who have started, in the most part, the new linear A level programme. These include the new Head Girl, Rowdah Charbak who has achieved 4 A grades at AS. Well over half of all AS grades were at grade A or B and a third at grade A.

James Russell, the Head of Sixth Form commented, "With this really encouraging start to A level study, I am excited to work with our girls on their university applications next term. I know that they will continue to balance their academic work with their commitment to the breadth of experiences that make them balanced and outstanding young women of the future."

Anyone interested to know more about the Sixth Form at Alderley Edge School for Girls is welcome to go along to the Sixth Form Information Evening on Thursday 12th October from 6pm or contact the school on 01625 583028 for more details.
