A group of Scouts from 1st Handforth helped in the annual fight against Himalayan Balsam at The Carrs on Monday, 12th June.

During a fun evening of pulling the plant and then "bashing" the Balsam, they built a pile of Balsam around 5 ft tall!

Mark Pepper, one of the assistant leaders with 1st Handforth, said "The Scouts are always looking for activities that help them get outdoors and help the community. Balsam bashing is one of those activities that also helps the environment."

Toby, one of the Scouts said "It was brilliant! We had great fun and helped with a serious environmental issue as well!"

Himalayan Balsam is one of the most invasive plant species in the UK and the event was held in partnership with Friends of The Carrs and Bollin Environmental Action and Conservation.
