Wilmslow Town Council has been trialling the services of a handyman for the past few months and are keen for local residents to help identify jobs he could do to improve the appearance of the town centre.
Members of the council felt that there are a number of issues and services that could be looked at - such as litter picking, repairing street furniture, cleaning pavements, picking up leaves - so they decided having a handyman would enable them to be more proactive in clearing up problems in the town.
So far the Handyman has completed five days of work in the town, the work he has undertaken includes cleaning road signs on all main routes and major residential routes, litter picking footpaths and clearing them of fallen trees and overgrown hedges, tidying up Banks Square, clearing debris from Twinnies Bridge Car park and removing graffiti.
Initially the Town Council agreed to take him on for one day a fortnight on a trial basis until the end of April when they will review the arrangements. If Wilmslow Town Council considers it to be working well they will consider increasing the arrangement to one day a week over the summer months. The total cost, if he was to work in Wilmslow one day a week, would be £6000 a year.
Town Clerk Matthew Jackson said "Residents are asked to highlight public space maintenance issues by emailing the Town Clerk or by phoning the office (01625 402907) so that a proactive approach can be taken in trying to improve streetscene maintenance issues."
