Updated: George Osborne is too busy writing his book to meet with constituents

osborne

MP George Osborne has refused to meet with a group of local constituents as he is too busy writing his book.

Wilmslow resident Stuart Regard recently contacted the Tatton MP to request a meeting to discuss the future of Britain after Brexit.

Mr Redgard, along with some other local residents is a member of the campaign group 38 Degrees, whose 300 members have drawn up a document entitled 'The People Powered Vision for Brexit'.

He wrote to George Osborne on 20th February saying "We've voted on our main hopes and concerns for when we leave the EU casting over ten million votes between us. We would really welcome the opportunity to discuss this document with you and get your opinion on the views of hundreds of thousands of people."

38 Degrees members across the UK have been meeting their MPs to discuss the 'People Powered Vision for Brexit'. We understand Liam Fox, Jeremy Hunt and Philip Hammond are among the MPs who have read and discussed the document with their own constituents.

Mr Redgard continued "We are happy to meet with you at a regular surgery appointment, but would also welcome having a longer meeting with you if you're able to accommodate this. Ideally there will be between four and five of us in attendance with an even split of Leave and Remain voters."

A member of staff from George Osborne's office, responded on 7th March saying "Thank you for contacting Mr Osborne. Sadly, his diary is very committed as he is writing his book to a deadline. Unfortunately, we cannot arrange a time for you to meet just now."

Mr Regard commented "I think this just represents his severe under performance in representing his constituents."

We have received the following clarification from the Office of George Osborne MP -

"This email was sent to a constituent in error by a new member of staff who was declining a large number of requests from non-constituents. When she realised her mistake, she immediately contacted the constituent to apologise and explain that his email would be responded to by Mr Osborne. This was a genuine administrative error made when the office was under extreme pressure and we apologise for any confusion caused."

Sounds like a 7th job. With GO concentrating on London, Manchester and overseas interests, we have lost our constituency MP other than in name.
Be good to have one wouldn't it?

How many jobs and how much money does this man want?

It's shameful that he takes us all for fools, like Derek said do the honourable thing and resign or at least have the bottle to call a by election ( if you're so confident that we are all behind you)

Hopefully no one will buy his book and more importantly no one will vote for him ever again.

Graham,

Tatton is a "safe seat" in our electoral system... give George a blue scarf and he would be re-elected - as would Blair or any other candidate wearing a red scarf in the Sedgefield constituency

Put a chimp on parade round here with a blue rosette and it will get voted in as a tory winner. As a tory myself, its about time this town grasped reality and voted independent to try and get someone who cares and not feather his own nest. Shame on you Osborne. I have sent you many emails condemming you. For Gods sake just go. Your as useless as a chocolate fireguard.

If you believe that it was a mistake by a member of his staff, think again he is not interested in dealing with members of 38 Degrees even if they are constituents he would probably have to answer ackward questions. Enough said.

You did not even attend the hustings in Wilmslow before the last election. Stop letting us down - just go and let us have an MP who cares.

Yes, Jack of all trades, master of none. I would really value being represented in parliament.
Any dedicated person out there ready for it?

As secretary of Saltersley Common Preservation Society we have been writing to Mr. Osborne for some time now to keep him informed about the problems with homes and businesses affected by subsidence locally. In February we invited him to come and see the damage for himself. His answer surprised us as he said he would like to. We wrote again suggesting his office contact us with a suitable time and date.
The response came back that Mr. Osborne is a busy man and could make no firm commitment.
