In a bid to cut down on littering in various locations in the village, Handforth Parish Council has agreed to purchase some new litter bins.

Five bins, at a cost of up to £1000, will be placed in locations which currently don't have one but have been identiifed as a problem area for littering.

The new bins will be sited near the station bridge on Church Road, one on the path adjacent to Wilmslow Grange School and two on the Spath Lane Estate. The fifth bin will initially be kept as a reserve.

Parish Clerk Ashley Comiskey Dawson explained "The reason for this was because the council have been approached by residents on a number of occasions requesting new bins."

We certainly do need more bins in Handforth or less dropping of litter. I regularly pick up litter along Station Road on my way to the station and wish there was one on my side of the street. However, shouldn't we be having a double bin these days - one for recycling and one for general waste?
