George Osborne made his annual visit to the Combined Charities Christmas card shop at Wilmslow Library on Thursday, 3rd November.

For the 15th consecutive year, the Tatton MP called into the pop-up Christmas card shop to support to the Cheshire institution, which is celebrating its 45th year, and meet some of the volunteers who were staffing the shop that day.

Sheila Hallas MBE opened the first shop in 1971 and since then has raised over £4.75 million for the participating local and national charities who receive 100% of the money from the sales of their cards.

Wilmslow resident Sheila Hallas, the Honorary Organiser, showed Mr Osborne some of the gifts which they are selling this year, including a Marmite puzzle (which he purchased), a selection of scarves and a cheese making kit. The margin the volunteers make from selling the gifts and stocking fillers goes to cover their costs - enabling them to ensure that 100% of the card price goes directly to the charities.

Sheila said "It is always a pleasure to see George Osborne. He has been coming here to see us every year since he has been MP for Tatton, which I think is wonderfully supportive of all the groups and charities that are working so hard here in Wilmslow."

George Osborne said "It wouldn't be Christmas for me without a visit to the Combined Charities Christmas Card shop in Wilmslow. Sheila and her team give so much time and energy to this fantastic cause and I would strongly encourage everyone to pop down to their nearest shop to stock up this festive season."

The Wilmslow shop will be open until Saturday, 10th December, from 9am to 5pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, with late opening until 7pm on Mondays and Thursdays.
