Annual Party on the Carrs parked as attendance drops off

Wilmslow Town Council has been revisiting the events which they organise in the town and as a result have decided to put the annual Party on the Park on hold.

Speaking at the Town Council meeting earlier this month, Councillor Gary Barton explained "Attendance at this event, whilst it still remains popular, has been diminishing.

"We have run it for five years and it was originally intended as a celebration of the Jubilee and it's just become a regular event but the time of year and its proximity to the Wilmslow Show, and other issues, has meant it is less popular than it was and the cost of putting it on meant that in its present format it should be suspended."

However, the Town Council will consider resurrecting the event for special occasions when they perceive there will be demand for it - such as to celebrate royal births, weddings, coronations, jubilees etc.

Councillor Gary Barton explained "In its place the working group is going to consider the potential for a fun day because the most popular aspects of that event were the bouncy castles and events for young kids so we're looking at ways we can do an event focussing on that aspect instead."

Meanwhile the Cinema in the Park has proved very popular so the working group is going to look at how that format can be extended and developed further and whether an alternative date might work better for it.

Councillor Barton added "The biggest concern about losing the Party on the Carrs is the platform it provided for local charities and organisations and its proved very successful for fundraising for local charities so we propose that we will work with the Wilmslow Show in order to take that aspect of it and move it into the Wilmslow Show and to work more closely with the Wilmslow Show because of the increased partnership between the Town Council and the Wilmslow Show."
