Last chance to admire art installation

Local residents have one last chance to view an art installation which was created as part of the town's entry into this year's North West in Bloom competition.

The large floral sculpture at Banks Square, which represents this year's theme of Butterflies and Bees was created by Wilmslow In Bloom, working with local artist Lorna Fellas and some local primary school children and residents who weaved and plaited fabric and willow onto fencing.

The artwork, which has attracted considerable attention during the ten weeks in which it has been on display will be dismantled on Sunday, 28th August.

Chair of In Bloom, Ruth McNulty, said "I was initially very nervous about this venture because of its vulnerability but I am delighted that all my fears have proved unfounded. The artwork has decorated Bank Square very effectively and I shall be sad to see it go."

Ruth added "If you haven't yet seen the artwork, now is your last chance. If you are available on Sunday 28 August from 10am onwards and could to help unweave, please bring a pair of scissors and a bag for the cut fabric. We will be very grateful for all additional assistance."

Updated 1pm Saturday 27th August - Wilmslow In Bloom has received a kind donation from The Halifax Show to swap the fence panels for some blank ones, enabling them to keep the artwork intact.

Helen Yates said "We need to sort out the finer detail, which I'll update you with but in the meantime the dismantling is cancelled. A sign will be placed on the artwork to tell people as such."

Very much enjoyed by us - a real treat for Wilmslow. What's next please?
A memorial to Prof Alan Turing? Gone very very quiet this year.
