Cash boost for station enhancements

A project to improve the appearance of Handforth Station has received a boost from Handforth Parish Council.

Friends of Handforth Station (FoHS) were delighted to be awarded a £1000 from the Parish Council this week towards a community designed archway for the station.

As part of their 20th anniversary FoHS are working on a scheme which includes an original artistic security gate and screen along with a welcome arch to provide a striking gateway to the village. All of which will be created by artist Christine Wilcox-Baker who will be bringing all the ideas from the local community together.

In addition to the Parish Council grant FoHS have also received funding from Contour Housing, Manchester Airport, the Association of Community Rail Partnership, Manchester to Crewe Community Rail Partnership, Northern Rail and Network Rail.

They are still short of funding though so have submitted a number of applications to local businesses and Cheshire East Council.
