Wilmslow parties in the park

Following on from Saturday's outdoor cinema event, which proved even more popular than last year, Wilmslow Town Council hosted their annual Party on the Park on Sunday, 19th June.

Around 1500 people gathered in the park for the free community event which returned for its 5th year with a duck race, bouncy castles, trampolines, street food and live musical entertainment.

This year's event, for the first time, included demonstrations and activities from local sports clubs including Pownall Park Tennis Club, Wilmslow Leisure Centre, Bushido Ju-jitzu Academy, Junior Parkrun and Wilmslow Football Academy who raised £150 for Wilmslow Animal Sanctuary with their speed gun challenge.

Additionally community organisations offered competitions, tombolas and other activities whilst the crowds were entertained with live performances from Mereside Brass Band, Pantonic Steel Orchestra, Magic Voices Choir and Alderley & Wilmslow Musical Theatre Company.

Chairman of Wilmslow Town Council, Cllr Martin Watkins said "I was delighted with this year's event as it featured more community organisations than ever before and also showcased local sporting organisations for the first time.

"Despite the threat of rain in the weather forecast this year's Party was still well attended and I know from initial feedback that the community groups raised a lot of money. Dean Row Guides organised the Duck Race which drew alot of interest too and made the River Bollin look very colourful as the ducks and pelicans bobbed along towards the finish line.

"I would like to thank all that helped with this year's event."
