Community garden is good to grow

Transition Wilmslow welcomed local residents and volunteers to their annual Seedling Saturday event at their community vegetable garden on Saturday, 14th May.

Raised beds were prepared and planted out, with the help of some enthusiastic young gardeners, beside the orchard at 'The Temp' recreation ground on Gravel Lane.

People came to swap plant seedlings and talk about composting whilst their Swedish candle log fire was used to heat up spiced apple juice - with much juice and cake consumed and enjoyed.

Pat Baker said "It was a great opportunity for us to engage with local people, especially children, get them talking about their vegetable growing, encouraging others to do more to grow their own, buy local food and get the composting habit. Do visit our community garden to see the results of our work."

Transition Wilmslow is a grassroots community group with the aim of building a more sustainable Wilmslow. They welcome new members to join in their activities and can be contacted via their website.

Their next public event is at the Wilmslow Show on Sunday, 10th July, where their stall will be featuring Lindow Moss - providing an opportunity to ask about the environmental issues facing this valuable part of the local landscape and how it might be restored.

The Wilmslow Show is being held in the grounds of Wilmslow High School from 11am to 5pm on Sunday, 10th July,
