Party on the Carrs promises to be even bigger and better

Now in its fifth year The Party on the Carrs will return on Sunday, 19th June and organisers are promising it will be even bigger and better than last year.

Along with an improved and extended line up for the Sunday, Wilmslow Town Council will once again be supporting a free outdoor cinema evening at the Carrs on Saturday, 18th June.

Earlier this year wilmslow.co.uk asked the people of Wilmslow to vote for the movie to be shown. The public were invited to choose from Back to the Future, Grease or Dirty Dancing - or nominate a film of their own choice. The 1970s movie Grease was the winner with over 51% of respondents voting for the smash-hit movie. Gates will open at 6pm with the film starting at 7.45pm.

The confirmed music line up for the Sunday will see Mereside Brass Band, Pantonic All Stars Steel Band and Magic Voices Choir take to the stage. The audience will also be treated to 'Wilmslow's Got Talent' featuring various acts and performances from Wilmslow High School students.

In addition to all the usual community events, stalls and societies, this year's Party on the Carrs will include a 'sports village' where local sports groups will be showcasing their clubs and societies - giving the public an opportunity to learn more about what Wilmslow's many sports societies and clubs have to offer.

Town Clerk Matthew Jackson, said "It is the Town Council's wish to continue and improve the annual 'Party on the Carrs'. Last year we extended the event by adding the 'Cinema on the Carrs' concept to the weekend. This year we are extending the event by adding the 'sports village' concept and tweaking the music offering. By doing this it is hoped that the event will appeal to an even wider family audience.

"If this year builds on previous successes it is envisaged that the 'On the Carrs' concept can be developed over future years to create more of a weekend whole-town focused event and embrace other new ideas and events."

If you are the secretary or chairman of a local club, society, community or affinity group in Wilmslow and you would like to showcase and promote your organisation at this year's Party on the Carrs email Assistant Town Clerk Helen Richards or call her on 01625 402907 as they still have a few spaces available.
