Wilmslow In Bloom set to get the town buzzing

Now in its fifth year, Wilmslow In Bloom is gearing up for this year's entry to the North West In Bloom competition. After stunning success in past competitions including scooping Gold awards in 2014 and 2015, the organisers are looking to widen participation this year.

Started by Wilmslow's Incredible Edible group, Edible Wilmslow In Bloom's appeal has encouraged over 80 businesses and many voluntary groups to get involved. Their efforts, in addition to the floral displays organised by the Town Council, help the town burst with colour throughout the summer.

This year's theme is 'Butterflies and Bees' so businesses and other groups are encouraged to use plants attractive to both. Sunflowers, lavender or heathers and cosmos are all ideal for pollinators. For more inspiration there is a link to a wide list of plants on the Wilmslow In Bloom Facebook page.

Ruth McNulty, Chairman of Wilmslow in Bloom, commented, "We are delighted with the enthusiasm that the town has shown for this competition and our Gold awards show that everyone's efforts are appreciated. We'd love as many businesses as possible to get involved and help the town bloom through June and July."

Planters can be put out from June onwards, so there is plenty of time for planning. As the planters appear, many businesses will also be participating in the Rotary's Scarecrow Festival, which runs throughout June and has raised thousands for local good causes.

This year it is hoped that the "Butterfly and Bee" theme will be a real draw for younger entrants too. Local primary schools will be planting special displays which will be on show in the town centre as well as making bug huts and more.
