Well, as a nearby resident to Adlington Road I have been shocked at the traffic chaos that this closure has caused. I took me over an hour to travel from the Blue Bell to Dean Road.
How can our Local Authority allow this to happen ? And to take 8 weeks !!! I recall that when the Earth Quake happen in San Francisco in the 80's and all the Motor way bridges collapsed, they had them rebuilt and working in 6 months. Perhaps the managers in their air conditioned offices working for our Local Authority should get out of their chairs and see what happening out here

This is really not acceptable, has taken over an hour to get from Adlington Rd to Wilmslow
High school. 8.30 am
Because of the road works on the A34 the traffic is backing up at the Summerfields roundabout and causing total gridlock. To close Adlington Rd whilst the A34 is not flowing
is crazy planning.

Jon - it is 30 minutes walk from the top of Wilmslow Park North to the station. Anyone living further up Adlington Road it will take longer - unless you believe the "developers distances" which seem to me to have been calculated using a straight line. Also have you seen how much children carry to school these days? - because there is no storage in desks and a limited number of students have "locker" space. There is nowhere for coats to be left in school so bags have to have enough storage space to accommodate a coat as well. On a food technology day you will see them with assorted number of bags as well as the usual cake tin.

I have just been to Handforth Dean. No problem getting right onto Adlington Road because there is no through traffic. Hit the mini roundabout by station road and sat there waiting for a break in the traffic. Next roundabout similar. A34 similar. Then I saw the notice for the road
works on the A34. I left the A34 on the first exit and doubled back to Wilmslow and went down Manchester Road. Coming back the traffic was still queuing to get onto the A34 at the Summerfields roundabout - at lunchtime.

All of this was predictable.

It's 1.3km from that junction to the station. Less than a mile. If that even takes 30 minutes you'd be walking really pretty slowly. Even right from Dean Row Chapel it's only 1.5 miles, which is more like 30 minutes at average walking pace.

It's funny that many on here who complain most about increases in traffic are those who seem most wedded to their cars.

Jon - I walk very fast, but I am short in stature - in fact, probably the height of many of the lower school children who attend Wilmslow High laden down with bags every day. Bollin Park is listed by David Wilson homes as being 1.4 miles from the train station. I am not wedded to my car - I walk into Wilmslow everyday but one, - in fact, Jon the mileage on my very old car is a standing joke with a local garage. So all in all Jon, I think I do my bit for the environment.

Google Maps:
32 min walk from Hillside Care Home to Wilmslow High School or a 9 min cycle ride ! A nice morning warm up for any school child.

Jon - would that be a 9 minute cycle ride down the private road then? - or would it be 9 minutes down to the mini- roundabout and down Macclesfield road and then onto the High school?

I found the reduction of vehicles driving through Wilmslow Park quite amazing since the roadworks started. All those drivers using it as short cut will need to find another private road to drive along. Hate to think what the traffic will be like through the Park when the new Estate being built on Adlington Road fully opens. Finally, it's wonderful to walk that section of the Bollin Way without ducking speeding cars as you try and cross Adlington Road. Only 8 weeks, shame!

There is one good thing about the closure of Adlington Road, and that is the benefit to Vardon Bridge, which is grade 2 listed.
Neither English Heritage, nor Cheshire east, nor the police and the builder are in the slightest bit interested in stopping the overweight lorries using this bridge to get to Bollin Park.
I have personally seen at least 20 or 30 since the start, and judging by the lorries with bricks and cement, vis a vis the completed houses, the number will be very big. Also the signage at the junction of Macclesfield Road and Hough Lane, needs attention.
Also Macclesfield Road is also being used by overweight lorries.
Hopefully Vardon Bridge will withstand the pressure

It's nice to see the new footpath from the river to the top of the hill on Adlington Road, it will make that part of the road a little safer for walkers
