Cheshire East Council has confirmed today "The dates for the closure on Adlington Road are now 14th March-7th May 2016, this is due to a date change from the contractor."

A section of Adlington Road will be closed for eight weeks to enable a surface water sewer to be installed.

Lisa - thank you for this information. Do you know what arrangements are being made for residents affected by this work to leave and return to their homes please?

Good point Sandra. Also does this mean that over 200 houses within Wilmslow Park will only be able to leave via Wilmslow Park South for 3 weeks?

Hi Sandra, it's not my ward, but usually there are people positioned in the works area to allow residents to enter and exit. There may be periods where certain driveways will not be accessible by car, but residents should be informed in advance. I will ask Highways if they know what the arrangements will be and forward the information to Lisa.

Thank you Gary. It would be very helpful if you could find out more information and good to know from you that we may not be trapped in our houses for three weeks!

Jackie - I am guessing that the work is connected with Bollin Park but, if so, at least we may avoid future flooding which is welcome, but it is a long time to be cut off in one direction or the other.

Thanks Sandra. Let us hope that there are no emergencies for 3 weeks because the bridge at Wilmslow Park South is too narrow to take fire engines or large vehicles of any kind.

As a resident of Adlington Road directly affected by the proposed closure I am appalled that we have not been officially notified. Our weekly local electronic newspaper did not mention this but it did mention the closure of Hawthorn Lane which is nothing like as busy as Adlington Road. We learnt of the proposed closure through a friend.

It will be a nightmare if we need to get to Wilmslow or return in the early morning or evening - in our case getting to and from Wilmslow Golf Club.

Jane - I agree the closure will be a nightmare but we have heard that the road works will not begin until the middle of March so, if that is true, it could be the reason why there has been no official notification to residents or signs put on the road to warn motorists.

Just to say I got a leaflet today about closure. The work begins 14th March and it is scheduled to take "approximately 8 weeks" because they are doing footpath and other things.

Highways have confirmed that the dates have changed from those published.

Virgin Media will be doing works on 18th February for one day only with three way traffic lights.

Adlington Road will be closed as a through road from 14th March for a period of approximately 8 weeks. The closure is in connection with the Bollin Park development and will include installation of a new sewer, highway improvements and footpath widening.

I also have had notification that Adlington Rd will be totally closed for about 8 weeks from
the 14 th March.
What I find hard to understand is why the whole road need to be closed for that length of time, can not some of the work i.e.: work to the footpath widening, be carried out using
a traffic control system that would at least allow some traffic flow. To close this road for 8 weeks is going to cause some major traffic problems especially at rush hour.

Cllr Toni Fox mentions "highway improvements" whereas to accommodate the wider footpath the carriageway is being reduced in width which is surely a retrograde step.
One has to wonder why the planning consent was not conditioned to require the footpath widening to be onto the development site.
Furthermore, the footpath on the opposite side to the entrance into Wilmslow Park North is to be widened and extended downhill to Vardon Bridge again narrowing the carriageway and no doubt needing further road closure.

My understanding is that the footpath widening on Adlington Road extends back towards the development at Bollin Park so the road itself is not narrowed. The two areas involved are where new houses are to exit from opposite One Oak Lane and around the entrance. Again down to Vardon Bridge the footpath is to be widened opposite the entrance to Wilmslow Park going inwards, This is dangerous because when the footpath reaches the bridge it will narrow as it does now. At the Wilmslow Park end it will be necessary for pedestrians to cross the road to join the pavement the other side on a blind bend. I may need to be corrected about this and would be interested to hear of any contrary information.

Dear All
It seems that not everyone has been notified,. We had a smoke alarm replaced on the 15th of February, and the fireman, who came, did not know anything at all re the closure!

Thank you Brian for pointing me in the right direction for detailed info. I agree with your previous comments on Wednesday and do not really understand why changes in width are necessary. If the future for Adlington Road was not gridlock or close to it when all the proposed developments are completed, I would say it would be a very dangerous highway. .

With reference to Cllr Toni Fox's Dean Row Ward comment. Toni can you please let me know why why why do we see time and again road works like those by Virgin Media tearing up our roads only for weeks later for someone else to come along and tear it up again. It is a waste of time and resource of those concerned not to mention the untold inconvenience for thousands of road fund licence payers. If we can all read this webpage why can't Virgin and others be made to tie in with Cheshire East and get their acts together. You as a local Councillor should be demanding this sort of joined up thinking on our behalf. This very same section of road was closed to one lane for a week only a month or so ago. Get your acts together and do it all at the same time!!!
PS Who if anyone goes to sign off the workmanship of the resurfacing? Usually the sub-contractors to a very poor job of this which either we the tax pays have to pay for the correction of or the road users have to put up pot holes.

Chris - all the works which close or restrict Adlington Road with traffic lights, are a result of building the housing estate known as Bollin Park. Residents of Wilmslow, which Toni Fox represents, did their very best to see fair-play regarding this development and continue to do so. History of this planning application shows that democracy is not alive and well in CEC and residents' opinions are of no consequence, hence the delays which will affect us all for two months.

Adlington Road is not open yet but I have spoken unofficially this morning to one of the men working on the new sewer who says they had a two-week extension which means they need to finish by Friday week, 20th, but they hope to complete by this Friday, 13th. I stress this is unofficial information.
