Crafters celebrate their best fundraising year

A group of ladies who make and sell crafts to support two local charities have had their most successful year of fundraising ever.

Wilmslow Girls Crafts for Charity had a very productive 2015 which saw them raise £6,327 for The Christie Hospital and East Cheshire Hospice, bringing their total since they started in 2013 to £15,365.

When they set up almost 4 years ago it was quite a large group of 14 but they are now down to a core of 5 ladies. They began with quite a wide range of crafts but have now settled on their two best sellers – chocolate orange covered characters and sock monkeys - which they sell at a number of venues including stalls at Wilmslow Party On The Carr's, The Christie Hospital and East Cheshire Hospice as well as various local businesses.

Pam Street explained "Several friends have been treated at The Christie and looked after at East Cheshire Hospice, including some of our group. At some point in everyone's life they will be affected by cancer - either directly or indirectly. That's why we have to chosen to support both The Christie Hospital & East Cheshire Hospice with our fundraising efforts."

Speaking about this past year, Pam added "2015 was our best year for our fundraising since we began at the beginning of 2013. It was a very productive and busy year, with our best achievements being a stall at Wilmslow Party On The Carr's and our pre-Christmas stall at The Christie hospital, where we raised over £1,000 in one day.

"We couldn't do it without the support of our families at home, who put up with all of our mess and help us with our stalls with transport, setting up etc."
