Wilmslow resident Steve Greaney has been selected to stand for Labour in the Cheshire East by election in Wilmslow Lacey Green ward.
Steve, 39, has lived in Lacey Green for 6 years with his wife and two children. He works as a recruitment partner in the healthcare sector. In his spare time, Steve has coached kids' grassroots sports and during the week he runs fitness sessions during the week for local youngsters.
He said: "I was sorry to hear the sad news about Chris Hilliard. I hope I can continue some of his good work. I'm keen to champion local issues and work to represent the area where I live.
"That means getting our fair share of the Govts' £1.6bn pothole repair fund and applying for grants to help pay for activities to keep our young people occupied. I'd also like to see more frequent bus services as well as a local banking hub."
Steve is keen to be visible and has already been speaking to residents over the last few weeks to find out more about what matters to them. He recently started a regular volunteer litter pick in Lacey Green Park and would like to campaign to get the more use out of the Pavillion, especially for new youth and community projects.
He said: "Lots of people know me around here already but I want to speak to as many people as possible to find out how I can best represent them. I'm a pretty friendly bloke, so feel free to come and chat to me about we can make the area work better for everyone."
Steve will be holding local events to support his campaign over the next few weeks. Residents can also email him on [email protected].
