Wilmslow has picked up a GOLD award, for the second year running, at the RHS North West in Bloom 2015 awards presentation held in Southport today (Friday 30th October).
In their fourth year of entry Wilmslow has received the Best Community Effort as well as a GOLD Award for their entry in the Best Large Town category.
Volunteers from Incredible Edible were supported by 82 businesses, local schools, various organisations and local residents who all came together to ensure the town centre and surrounding areas looked fantastic for this year's competition, for which they adopted the theme of Upcycling Wilmslow.
Meanwhile in their first year of entry Chorley has picked up Bronze in the Village category whilst Styal has won Silver in the Large Village category,
Additionally, as reported yesterday, The Friends of the Carrs picked up a Level 4 'thriving' award in the RHS 'It's Your Neighbourhood' competition which runs alongside Britain in Bloom and awards community groups for cleaning up and greening up their local environment.
Helen Yates, Secretary of Wilmslow In Bloom said "A hatrick for Wilmslow again .. Gold for the 'Best Large Town' category, judges discretionary award for 'Community Effort' - which I am hugely proud of as we really have pulled together with so many hardworking groups and brilliant team work which is great to have rewarded.
"Also on Wednesday in the 'It's Your Neighbour Awards' The Friends of the Carrs won a level 4 (equivalent to silver guilt)."
Ruth McNulty, Chair of Edible Wilmslow In Bloom said "The In Bloom entry from Edible Wilmslow has been magnificently driven by Helen and her enthusiasm, which has motivated so many other volunteer groups around the town, both to participate and contribute and which has led not only to the marvellous displays around the town but also to the recognition by the North West In Bloom committee of the Award of 'Best Community Effort'.
"Very many thanks to everybody who gave their time and energy. Many congratulations to Chorley and Styal on their awards, too. I am so looking forward to yet another collaborative community event next year with even wider participation."
The North West in Bloom competition aims to encourage local communities to improve and care for their environment through imaginative planting of trees, shrubs, flowers and landscaping, conservation and recycling projects, and to sweep away eyesores that blight our streets such as litter, graffiti and vandalism.
