The highly acclaimed Academy of St. Peter's String Orchestra, led by Louise Latham, will perform a concert of music by Purcell, Handel, Albinoni (the celebrated Adagio for Organ and Strings) and Bach at St Bart's Church on Thursday, 5th November.

Louise Latham studied at the Royal Northern College of Music, gaining a teaching diploma with distinction, a performing diploma and she was awarded the Hiles Gold Medal for orchestral playing. She was a member of the BBC Philharmonic for six years before commencing a busy freelance career, working with the BBC Philharmonic, the Hallé, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic and Northern Chamber Orchestras.

The Academy of St. Peter's String Orchestra grew from the desire of some string playing friends to explore repertoire for string orchestra. Louise Latham agreed to organise the music and direct from the front desk and initial rehearsals were held St. Peter's Assembly Rooms in Hale in March, 2013.

The orchestra decided to share their enjoyment of the music by giving occasional free mid- day concerts. At every event they have asked for donations for a designated charity and have been pleased to support, in addition to other charities, Music in Hospitals; Uganda Development Services; the Jubilee Sailing Trust and Barnabus, a charity for the homeless in Manchester.

They will be joined by viola player Duncan Anderson in a concerto by Handel arranged by the legendary conductor of the Hallé orchestra, Sir John Barbirolli and the soloist in Bach's keyboard concerto in D minor will be RNCM graduate Philip Underwood who is the organist and director of music at the church.

Refreshments will be available in the church from 11am and the concert will commence at 11.30am. Admission is free and there will be a retiring collection in aid of Oscar the church organ.
