Cheshire East Council has approved the third round of community grants for 2015/16.
Awards totalling £40,789 have been allocated to voluntary and community organisations which meet the criteria approved by Cheshire East Council.
Amongst the successful applicants are Alderley and Wilmslow Musical Theatre Company which has been awarded £1000 towards their production of 'Sister Act'. In total it costs the theatre company £33,126 to stage the production, specific costs include the set, wardrobe, sound, make up and scripts.
The group have been fundraising towards the costs, will have income from ticket sales and have contributions from various other sources including Wilmslow Town Council who awarded them a grant of £3762 to cover the cost of hiring the Evan's Theatre at Wilmslow Leisure Centre.
Wilmslow Cricket Club requested £2800 and were awarded £1,800 towards replacing their pitch roller which is 50 years old and in poor condition. Without a new roller, the club will be unable to provide a pitch of a sufficient standard for the leagues that the club plays in.
The club will be part exchanging their current roller, reducing the project cost by £1,000. Cheshire East Council awarded £1,800 and recommended that the remaining project costs are sought from other sources, such as the Town Council.
Additionally, St Chad's Church in Handforth requested a grant of £5000 but were awarded £3500 for the provision of disabled toilets and baby changing facilities, which will require major building works such as the demolition of internal walls and the repositioning of the boiler. The church hall can then become a meeting place which can be used by disabled people, mothers/carers and childminders.
The church will be contributing to this project and have applied to numerous other sources. As reported on wilmslow.co.uk in September, they applied to Wilmslow Town Council for £4000 towards the £34,570 project, however, Wilmslow Town Council voted in favour of giving them £1000 - which is the same amount that Handforth Parish Council provided.
