Wilmslow High's sports teams off to a cracking start

It's been a strong start to the season for Wilmslow High School's sports teams.

The senior football team have started their season unbeaten, having played 5, won 5, including an impressive 9-1 win over St Monica's High School in the first round of the ESFA cup.

The junior football teams have also safely negotiated their way through the first rounds of their ESFA competitions. The under 15s came from 2-0 down to win 3-2 away against Bramhall High School, while the under 13s won 11-1 away against Chesterton Community Sports College.

Having both won Cheshire Cup titles last season, the under 13 and under 15 girls' football teams were keen to get off to a flying start in this year's competition. Both teams played against Sir William Stanier Community School in Crewe, with the under 13 team winning 13-0 and the under 15s winning 11-0.

The girls and boys hockey teams have also started well. The senior girls' team have made an unbeaten start to the season, with wins over Kings Chester, St Bedes, Stockport Grammar and Arnold as well as going unbeaten in the Cheshire round of the national competition. The U14s will also represent Cheshire in the North West round of the national competition following wins over Kings Chester, Fallibroome and Birkenhead High. The under 14s have played some great hockey so far this season and were also 4-0 winners over Arnold School.

The highlight of the season so far for the under 16 team was their impressive 2-0 win over Manchester High School, while the under 13 team can be proud of their 4-0 win over Arnold School. The under 15 boys hockey team played their first match of the season against Fallibroome in the Cheshire Cup and ran out 11-0 winners.

Following their successful run in the Nat West cup last year, the senior rugby team have looked impressive rugby so far this season. The team learnt much in defeat away at Sedbergh in their second match of the season and have used those lessons to spur them on. Their 57 – 7 win over Cheadle Hulme School in the national cup earlier this week came on the back of big wins over Merchant Taylor's, Altrincham Grammar, Rydal Penrhos and Lymm High School.

The under 15s have also had a successful start in their Nat West Cup competition, with a comfortable 49-0 away win over Weaverham and have also recorded wins over Sale Grammar School, Lymm High School, Altrincham Grammar School and Merchant Taylor's School.

Wilmslow's netballers made it a clean sweep over Eaton Bank this week with wins for the under 12a, under 12b, under 13, under 14 and senior teams. This followed clean sweeps over Congleton, Knutsford and against Alderley Edge School for Girls at junior level. The seniors will be looking forward to their Cheshire County Tournament to be held at the high school on Wednesday 14th October.
