A group of Handforth residents have raised nearly £2000 in a bid to regenerate a local park.
Stanley Hall Park is located adjacent to a social housing estate on Peover Road and has been neglected due to lack of investment.
Spurred on by their childhood memories of the park, residents have formed 'Friends of Stanley Park' to fundraise for a range of park improvements including a running track, sporting facilities and play equipment.
The group hope to create a space that can be enjoyed by all members of the community and are currently working with Spath Lane Residents Association to improve the existing facilities.
In the past couple of weeks, they have organised a number of fundraisers including a family fun day with a variety of stalls, performances by the Oakmere Singers and a miniature railway.
Chair John Smith said "Discussions will be taking place with park users and neighbours to identify areas which require improvement.
"Funding will be sought from all possible agencies and organisations to create a park which meets the needs of all ages including parents with toddlers in the Kiddies play area, skateboarders, footballers, dog walkers and those just using the park for a gentle walk."
Plans are underway to apply for national grants to help cover the £250,000 regeneration plans whilst the group continues to fundraise and arrange regular clean-ups at the park.
