Keith Chapman is a Conservative candidate for the Wilmslow East Ward for Wilmslow Town Council.

Keith is a business man who has lived in Wilmslow for 23 years. He has always worked in the packaging sector and in recent years he has specialised in turnarounds.

He told me "My most recent successful outcomes have been Esterform Limited, a manufacturer of PET preforms and bottles, and Betts, a manufacturer of toothpaste tubes for GSK, P&G, Unilever and Colgate. I am currently Chairman of Excelsior Technologies Limited. Excelsior is a manufacturer of flexible gravure printed packaging for the food sector. The company is headquartered at Deeside near Chester."

Keith added "I have decided to stand as a town councillor to contribute to the community in which I live. I have always been interested in politics and I have stood twice as a parliamentary candidate in the 2001 and 2005 General Elections. I stood firstly in Knowsley North and Sefton East, and then in Oldham East and Saddleworth where my opponent was Phil Woolas."

He continued"I think the important issues facing Wilmslow are: (1) Pressures on the high street from the internet. We have done well to keep as many retail premises as we have in use (2) Road congestion. Although the by-pass has helped a lot, airport development keeps the area very congested (3) The development of large expensive houses rather than affordable homes for local residents (4) parking. There is not enough parking capacity in the town.

"I will be the new boy so I will be listening and learning. I would hope that I can bring my business experience to bear to ensure we spend public money wisely. I would like to do everything possible within the limitations of the powers of the Town Council to address the issues outlined above, and to assist young people to progress.

"I think my candidacy is based on experience. I have run businesses and managed people, I have with the support of my wife Kate raised three children with all the rewards and difficulties that involves. I know life can be a challenge and if I can support those who are working hard to succeed in a difficult economic environment I will have achieved something worthwhile."
