A Platform for Art

Unvielinghandforth

Over the years Friends of Handforth Station have brought more and more art onto the platforms at Handforth.

Dean Oaks Primary School has installed a series of small ceramic animals on the Manchester Platform, whilst Wilmslow High School have put on a changing art show of their "Art Loan" in the ticket office.

For their latest installation Handforth Parish Council, Cheshire East Council, and Contour Housing commissioned artist Christine Wilcox-Baker to design and install a new artwork drawing on the departure of soldiers from Handforth Station to the First World War, and those who returned.

'Reflection', which was created with some unused cycle lockers, was opened by Vice Chair of Handforth Parish Council, Mike Thompson, Councillor Barry Burkhill, and Julie Corke, Station Manager on Saturday 21st March.

Chair of Friends of Handforth Station, Mike Bishop then invited people back to the Railway Inn for refreshments and the AGM.

Mike Bishop said "It was great to see so many people in Handforth turn out for art and we look forward to unveiling some more exciting ideas this next year.

"The AGM gave us lots of creative ideas from local people for us to work on."

Friends of Handforth Station exist to raise the profile of the station, making it more attractive and a centre of community life.

The Friends of Handforth Station do a really great job of making the station look attractive. What we also need to work on is Disabled access on both sides and increasing the number of trains.
