Wilmslow Town Council has approved a grant application for £170 from a local primary school.
Lindow Community Primary applied for the grant to enable them to purchase a grit and salt spreader so they can grit the school grounds and Upcast Lane.
As reported last year, Governor Marie Griffiths and Headteacher Darren Morgan of Lindow Primary School addressed the Town Council to draw the councillors attention to a serious road safety issue that is effecting their school.
They explained that the main priorities for Lindow Primary School are appropriate gritting and hedge trimming as well as a speed limit and signage review. In the longer term the school would like to see a pavement extension and pedestrian crossing on Knutsford Road.
The purchase of this device will enable children and adults to travel more safely to school in icy conditions.
Cllr Gary Barton commented "The road is next to impossible for Cheshire East vehicles to grit and is not a major highway so does not fall within the normal remit of Cheshire East's gritting policy so I think this is a very worthy application that addresses a real need."
Cllr Martin Watkins said "This is actually a stop-gap measure for icy roads over the winter, this is a permanent solution to the problem. A permanent solution to the problem is the construction of a path on private land which is owned by the church.
"It is going to take a while negotiate this and there are other obstacles to be overcome but this is a means, a short term means, for trying to improve the safety of children walking down that road."
Headteacher Darren Morgan responded "I'd just like to highlight that this is the tip of the iceberg. Inclement weather is an increased hazard, however it is a hazard all the time."
The application was approved unanimiously.

Here's what readers have had to say so far. Why not add your thoughts below.
It's an idyllic setting.
However the single track lane is a huge problem as is the parking! Surely a slice of land from the cricket club a meter or so to form a proper footpath would be well worth the local authority negotiating. The other issue is parking and yet there is a locked car park used by a local football team . If this was improved and opened to the school during term time it would ease the congestion considerably .
All the users would benefit from cooperating ! Not rocket science really .
I also kept an ice/snow free path to the schools entrance's from Upcast Lane
