Call for residents to make their front gardens bloom

Groups from across Wilmslow are teaming up again to enter the North West In Bloom competition and this year they are looking to show more residential areas alongside the parks and town centre.

To get involved your front garden needs to be well planted with a creative use of space and colour for a floral and or edible display. This can be done using baskets, containers or directly into the ground.

Britain in Bloom is one of the longest running environmental competitions in the United Kingdom and each year it grows and involves more people, groups and organisations within the community. The aim of the competition is to encourage the improvement of our surroundings through the imaginative use of trees, shrubs, flowers and landscaping with the aim to achieve a litter free and sustainable environment.

Last year's entry was a combined effort from Wilmslow Town Council, Cheshire East Council and CEC Rangers, working alongside Wilmslow Business Group and volunteers from Incredible Edible, Rotary Club of Wilmslow Dean, Friends of The Carrs and Wilmslow Clean Team. The entry gained Wilmslow three trophies; Improved Entry, Biodiversity Award for Lindow Common and a Gold Award for the town.

''As part of our 2015 Wilmslow In Bloom, entry we'd really like to include more residential front gardens on the judges route,'' explained Helen Yates, Wilmslow In Bloom secretary.

''It has to be the front garden, as the idea is that passers by can enjoy the display.''

''Whole streets, or community garden spaces can also enter alongside Wilmslow In Bloom, or as an entry in their own right though the North West In Bloom website. It is absolutely free to take part''
