Rugby: Under 15s triumph after slow start to season

Under 15 Rugby

After a slow start to the season, with some indifferent performances against quality opposition, Wilmslow U15s rugby team look to have turned the corner.

Having been hampered by injuries so far this season, Thursday's Natwest Vase fixture against Bolton School was a great opportunity to impress, with key players back fit and raring to go. Coming off a great result over Bramhall in the previous round, Bolton looked full of confidence, organised and possessed a big pack. Wilmslow themselves had managed back to back victories in previous games and had looked good against St Joseph's School from Stoke. This was a step up however, and Wilmslow proved up to the challenge.

The first half proved quite tight, with Wilmslow managing to cross the line three times early on, but not extending their lead despite good possession. Bolton, with two or three strong runners still looked dangerous. In the second half, Wilmslow managed to maintain their intensity and appetite in defence and ran away with the game as the Bolton players tired. A great all round performance by the forwards, and a more solid looking scrum led to numerous turn overs and fast counter attacks from the pacey backs.

A full length try from outside centre Daniel Williams, and a brace from winger Oliver Warner wrapped up the win.
