George Osborne MP paid his annual visit to the pop-up Christmas card shop at Wilmslow library this morning, to lend his support and meet the volunteers.

For the 13th consecutive year, the Chancellor visited the Combined Charities Christmas Shop run by Wilmslow resident Sheila Hallas MBE and a team of volunteers.

Sheila Hallas said "We feel it is so kind of George in a busy schedule to make room to come and see us every year, it makes such a difference.

"He has come every year since he became an MP and with the responsibility he has now to make time for us is so kind."

George Osborne said: "Sheila Hallas and the team at Wilmslow do a fantastic job every year, raising money for national and local charities. The card shop at Wilmslow Library has been a feature of our Christmas every year and I like to visit and show my support. I hope that local people will rally to this fantastic cause."

Sheila started the charity shop in 1971 and since then they have raised over £4 million for the participating charities.

This year's pop-up shop is open at Wilmslow library until Saturday 6th December.

In addition to selling cards from over 30 charities, the shop stocks a wide range of quality gifts, toys, stocking fillers and wrapping paper. The margins made from selling these items goes towards covering the costs of running the operation - to enable the charities to receive 100% of the money from the sales of their cards.

The Wilmslow shop will be open from 9am to 5pm Mondays to Saturdays with late opening to 7pm on Mondays and Thursdays.
