Wilmslow scarecrows are on their way to London to audition for the chance to star on the small screen.

Six straw creations from the Wilmslow Scarecrow Festival have been invited by McCain to audition at the Arts Theatre, in the heart of London's West End.

They are amongst thirty scarecrows travelling from across the UK to the capital, competing for a chance to feature in the new 2015 McCain advertisements.

Amongst the judges will be ex Emmerdale actress Sheree Murphy, McCain representatives and TV production executives who will be looking for originality, creativity and the wow factor.

McCain were sent photos of this year's entries into the Wilmslow Scarecrow Festival and last year's winner, from which they selected creations by Hawthorns Deli, Multiyork, Morley Tea Rooms, The Coach & Four, Hilary Meredith Solicitors and Turners Nursery.

Geoff Shelmerdine, organiser of the festival with members of the Wilmslow Dean Rotary Club said "We are delighted to have been asked to take part in this fantastic opportunity with McCain, their PR Company, Nexus Communications have worked really hard to identify scarecrows from right across the UK to take part in these auditions. This event extends the promotion of our own Scarecrow Festival, enhances the profile of our participating businesses and above all, shows Rotary at its best - working for their local community. We wish our scarecrows and their creators every success."

The lucky winner will appear as an extra in the next series of Emmerdale sponsorship bumpers alongside McCain favourites 'Spade Head' and 'Bucket Boy', plus there will also be financial support for their village or town to spend on the next Scarecrow festival in 2015.
