Scarecrow Festival brings samba beat to Wilmslow

A touch of Rio was brought to Wilmslow today as the Batala Drumming Band from Lancaster paraded through the town centre as part of the 2014 Wilmslow Scarecrow Festival.

Old and young lined the streets to soak up the atmosphere and enjoy the sound of the very loud, visual and entertaining samba band.

They were accompanied by Rotary Robin and Rosie, two 12 ft scarecrows made by rotarians Geoff Shelmerdine and Bernard Davies, and scouts and beavers who paraded with the scarecrows they had made.

The Wilmslow Scarecrow Festival continues until Sunday, 13th July, when it will culminate with a display of selected scarecrows at the Wilmslow Show.

Look out for Recycled Ruth who will be hanging out in the town centre waiting for people to capture a prize winning 'Selfie' with her.

Email your selfie (high resolution please) to [email protected] for our gallery and the one judged to be the best will receive prize draw tickets and the chance to win a selection of great prizes, including a two day break in a luxury holiday home in Yorkshire.

Forms and maps for the Scarecrow Treasure Hunt are now available from Wheeldon Opticians on Hawthorn Lane and Candy & Cards on Water Lane.
