Fourteen local schools will be taking part in their own World Cup tournament.

The WFA Mini World Cup 2014 is being held at Lindow Primary School and spread over four days, from Monday 30th June through to Thursday 3rd July.

Erik Garner, owner of WFA explained "Wilmslow Football Academy traditionally hosts an annual inter-school football tournament for all the primary schools in the area but this year we wanted to make it extra special with it being World Cup Year.

"Each year a different school host's the WFA Inter-school Tournament and this year Darren Morgan of Lindow Primary, who is an avid football fan, asked if we could hold the WFA Mini World Cup at his school.

"Everyone loves the World Cup and the only thing better than watching football is to play it. What can be better than actually playing in a Mini World Cup whilst representing your school? The other great thing about the WFA Mini World Cup is that children from all the school years can take part, not just the older children. The WFA Mini World Cup is to be enjoyed by the year ones to the year sixes and finishing off the tournament with a girls only competition."

Darren Morgan is also responsible for hosting and arranging the annual Primary School Sports Awards Evening which are held at the High School. This year's event will take place on 25th June and during the course of the evening the draw for the WFA Mini World Cup 2014 will be made.

Firstly each school will be put into a draw and will be drawn to represent a country. Once all the schools have been allocated a country to represent they will be drawn into groups. On the day of the tournament each team in each group will play each other once and the top two teams in each group will go on to play in the semi final, with the two winners then meeting in the final.

Once each school has been drawn to represent a country the school will adopt that country for the week of the tournament and learn about its customs and culture. They will also be encouraged to make banners and flags to wave in support of their school teams during the competition.

Each afternoon teams from Lindow Primary, Dean Oaks, Mobberley Primary, St Benedict's, Nether Alderley Primary, Gorsey Bank, Ashdene, St. Anne's Fulshaw, Pownall Hall, Wilmslow Grange, Alderley Edge Community Primary, Lacey Green Academy and Styal Primary will compete in the separate age categories.

The competition starts on Monday 30th June when year 1 and 2's play in mixed teams, Tuesday 1st July will see years 3 and 4 compete, Wednesday 2nd July is year 5 and 6 and then Thursday 3rd July is mixed teams of girls from years 4, 5 and 6.

The final winners will be awarded the Mini World Cup and each player will receive a winners medal, there will also be medals for the runners up and all players will receive a certificate to commemorate their participation in the WFA Mini World Cup.
