Plans for charity golf day in full swing

Plans are well underway for the annual Norton Barrie Golf Day which will be held in aid of The Christie and in memory of Barrie Norton, who founded the designer menswear store on Water Lane.

This year's event, organised by Barrie's son Blake, is set to be an even bigger and better affair - bringing together a host of sport and television celebrities at Northenden Golf Club on Friday July 1st.

Blake Norton explained "The first tournament took place in July 2009 and was such a great success that it has now become an annual event.

"Celebrity personalities turn out yearly in support and memory of my dad and they are not left disappointed as the day is all singing and all dancing just like my dad. The day is a real testament to the love and respect that everyone involved felt for him.

"My dad, who passed away on August 10th 2008, was a very keen golfer, and he turned me into one, so the following year I decided to organise a golf day in his memory, in aid of The Christie."

In 2009, 160 golfers took part in the first event raising just over £4,000 on the day - which went towards providing a new laser machine for throat cancer which Barrie Norton had suffered from. The following year was equally as successful with 180 people playing, raising just over £5,000.

There are only a handful of places left for the third Norton Barrie Golf Day on July 1st which has a maximum of 200 players.

OK Magazine and Sky Sports have confirmed they will be covering the event, sponsored by Paddy Power.

If you would like to get involved in the day to raise money for The Christie then please call Blake on 01625528233 or Cara on 01204361852.
