As reported last year The University of the Third Age(U3A) has set up a local branch for the Wilmslow, Handforth and the surrounding area.
Individual U3As are self-managed organisations which provide educational and leisure activities for men and women who are no longer in full time employment and they draw upon the knowledge, experience, skills and enthusiasms of their members to organise interest groups in accordance with the wishes of the membership.
Since its formation in November the local branch of U3A already has over 150 members and is starting to form the activity and interest groups covering virtually anything from history, music, technology to walking groups.
The first open meeting of the year will be held on 26th January where a talk will be given by Barbara Foster entitled 'When did Mick Jagger sleep here?' Barbara Foster is from the National Trust and will provide an interesting exploration of local facts and history.
The meeting will be held at URC hall on Chapel Lane in Wilmslow, commencing at 2:30pm and there will be a small cover charge of £1 per head.
A programme of forthcoming meetings and talks has been put together, which are featured in our events calendar. Everyone interested is invited to attend and there will be further opportunities to join existing or new groups throughout the year.
