Families pay tribute to teenagers killed in Handforth collision

The families of William John Paton,19, and William Anthony Shepherd,18, who were tragically killed in a fatal collision on Boxing Day have paid tribute to the teenagers.

They received fatal injuries when their black VW Golf left the carriageway and landed in a field near the A34 Handforth bypass and its junction with the A555 just before midnight on Sunday, December 26th.

The Paton family said "Will was a very special son, brother and boyfriend who will be sorely missed by all who knew him".

William Sheppard's family have released the following statement:

"William was a pupil both at Bramhall High School and Acquinas College. He had a great love for cricket and played for Cheadle Hulme for a number of years. He recently started an apprenticeship with the DeVere Academy of Hospitality, where he was training to be a Chef. He had a very bright future ahead of him, with everything to look forward to, and seemed to really have found what he wanted to do in life. Words cannot express how much we love William and how much we will all miss him. He has given us 18 years of absolute joy, with his cheeky grin and his caring, compassionate nature. We will never forget him and we will hold him in our hearts for the rest of our lives. We would ask that we are left to grieve in peace."

Police are appealing for any witnesses to the collision, or any pre incident driving of the black VW Golf between Parrs Wood entertainment complex and the collision scene, to contact them on 0845 458 0000.
