A charity lunch was held at the Stanneylands Hotel last week in aid of the Combat Stress Appeal 'The Enemy Within', which was launched by HRH the Prince of Wales in March 2010.
Hilda Barton, the poet from Bolton, entertained the guests who helped raise an impressive £5208 on the day.
The lunch was organised by Wilmslow resident Khumi Burton, who along with her husband Sidney, are keen supporters of Combat Stress which delivers dedicated treatment and support to ex-service men and women with conditions such as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), depression and anxiety disorders.
The Enemy Within Appeal aims to raise £30 million over 3 years to make sure that veterans and their families are never far from help. The money will be used to establish 14 Community Outreach teams nationwide, providing short-stay treatment and community based clinical care for the veterans and their families. It will cost about £825 every day to run.
Speaking about last week's lunch Khumi said "It went very well and Hilda Barton, our speaker was excellent. For someone who is 88, she did not even have a note.
"We were 51 strong and Eamonn from the Stanneylands looked after us very well as usual. Everyone who come to the lunch and those who could not attend were very very generous. On Friday I sent off a cheque for £5208 to Combat Stress.
"Sidney, who was unable to attend, was very pleased as Combat Stress is very dear to his heart. Thank you to all for supporting."
