Wilmslow resident Khumi Burton is campaigning to have the flag of St George, the Patron Saint of England, flown on every government and council building on April 23rd each year.
On behalf of the Greater Manchester branch of the Royal Society of St George, Khumi, who is Chairman of the branch, has written to the Prime Minister David Cameron requesting his support.
Khumi explained "I am very keen and enthusiastic about flying the flag of St George on St George's Day by everyone who lives in England. I find that people are very reluctant to fly the flag in case they offend someone. In India, where I come from, everyone from schools to public buildings fly the Indian flag and very proudly too."
Khumi has lived in Wilmslow for 33 years is very proud to be a British Citizen. She is married to a retired Cheshire Regiment Major, very involved in the community and organises the annual Bank Holiday Street Party on Grove Street.
She explained "I am asking the Prime Minister whether he is prepared to consider flying the flag of St George on every St George's Day at No.10, all government buildings and subsequently all town halls across the country. In my humble opinion this gesture is long overdue.
"I do hope he will give this serious consideration along with the many far more important issues he has to deal with. This request is not a one man band propaganda but the Royal Society as an organisation are hoping that one day the flag of St George will fly on April 23rd in this country."

Here's what readers have had to say so far. Why not add your thoughts below.
The letter confirmed that whilst the Department of Culture, Media & Sport advises that the Union flag must always take precedence, buildings with two flag poles, which includes Downing Street, are encouraged to fly the St George's Cross on St George's Day.
Khumi said "I am so pleased and the Royal Society of St George, as a national organisation, will be very pleased too.
"May this continue for England for the years to come and encourage others to do the same. I will be urging all Town Halls in the Country.
"I will also be dropping a letter to Jeremy Hunt, MP Minister for Culture Media & Sport, and of course the MP, to thank them."
