Cheshire Police support regional campaign

Cash in Transit

Cheshire Constabulary is taking part in a regional campaign to reduce the opportunity for criminals to commit armed robberies on cash deliveries to premises in the run up to Christmas.

Cheshire Police have worked previously with other forces in the North West to reduce this type of crime and last year, the regional as a whole, put criminals behind bars for more than 600 years in total, with one offender receiving a life sentence.

Superintendent Andy Mitchell Director of Intelligence for Cheshire Police, said: "Key to reducing this type of crime is keeping one step ahead of the offender. Information from the public can provide the police with vital intelligence about who is planning what, and where. The Shop and Stop campaign asks those people out doing their shopping and appeals to those who operate on the edge of criminal gangs, to keep their eyes and ears open.

"With Christmas approaching, traditionally one of the busiest times of year for this type of crime, we are determined to keep communities in Cheshire safer by targeting, deterring and disrupting criminals from committing this type of crime.

"Armed robberies on cash in transit vans are not victimless crimes. They can have a devastating and long lasting impact on the drivers who take on this role. Everyone, has a right to carry out their work without being fearful of what might happen during the course of their working day. In Cheshire our message is clear, Cheshire Police Officers will be where the money is and will bring those intent on committing this type of offence, to justice."
