Wilmslow photographers have done it again

Members of Wilmslow Guild Photographic Society (WGPS) have reason to celebrate again. Following their recent win in the Digital SLR User Magazine's Battle of the Clubs competition for macro images they have been awarded another 1st place, this time in the sport and action round.

Each month, camera clubs in the UK submit their top 3 images for the nominated subject as entries for this competition which is sponsored by Canon, the judges then review every entry and score each of the clubs' images based on the picture impact, technical quality and composition.

Each club's entry can gain up to a maximum of 45 points per round. The 37 point win for WGPS was closely followed by Wrekin Arts PC with 36 and Oxford Photographic Society with 35.

WGPS Chairman, Gary Schultz said; "This is fantastic news. I'm so pleased that our club has done it again. I know we had a very strong selection of sports images from members so chose the three with the most impact, the judges obviously liked what they saw! There are three more rounds to go, so let's hope we can continue our winning streak and keep scoring well".

The winning images for Wilmslow are "Wakeboarder" by Andrew Twambley, "Pink Pants" by Clare Metcalfe and "Picture of a Pitcher" by Dave Griffiths.

New members are always welcome to join the society, which is for everyone who enjoys taking photographs, whether in digital or traditional film formats, from beginner to expert. Meetings are held at 7.30pm on Wednesday evenings at The Guild, 1 Bourne Street, Wilmslow. Full details of the 2010-2011 programme are available on the Society's website
