Wilmslow Town’s weekend cut short

The fixtures for Wilmslow Town on Sunday fell prey to the same weather that delayed Europe’s retention of the Ryder Cup. The one match that did go ahead was the U15’s who travelled to Long Hey, only for the game to be abandoned at half time. By this stage the U15’s were 5 - 0 up with Storey (2), Pindar, Stanyer and Whatson having got the better of the conditions to find the back of the net.

The only other result from Sunday was for the U16’s who had already been awarded a walk-over in their Cheshire Cup fixture against Norton Knights, which sees them progress to the next round.

No such problems with the weather on Saturday for the younger age groups. Top of the scoring were the U9 Jaguars who made the short journey to Alderley Edge to play Alderley United. In a high scoring match it was McEwen-Patterson (3), Murison (2), Birchall, White and Vitale who took their scoring boots with them, with the final result being 8 - 3.

For the U9 Panthers it was five wins out of five with a 3 - 2 victory at Unicorn Athletic. Goals this week came from Gaskin, Kennedy and Rycroft.

The U10 Panthers were frustrated in their match against Unicorn Athletic, whilst having the best of some of the play they were unable to take the final advantage with a goal from Mellor being the only score in a 1 - 1 draw.

In another local fixture, the U11 Panthers welcomed Alderley United for a match which was a game of two halves. Wilmslow had the better of the first half scoring two goals, thanks to McAndry and Vitale. But the second half belonged to Alderley, though they were only able to convert the one chance with the final score being a win to Town, 2 - 1.
