Wilmslow Town Council have awarded TEMPO a community grant of £2,000 to help cover set rental and delivery for their upcoming show at the Evans' Theatre in Wilmslow Leisure Centre.
TEMPO (The Edge Musical Production Organisation, who were formerly SCAMPS) is an award-winning amateur musical theatre company for young people and registered charity. They currently rehearse in Alderley Edge and put on a show every March in Wilmslow.
TEMPO provide performing arts training to young people between 10-20 years of age in the Wilmslow area. Their group aims include exploring with performers' creativity, camaraderie and respect through a shared experience of performing in live theatre, and to produce an annual musical show for a cost that is affordable to the audience.
The production sponsored through the Wilmslow Town Council community grant will be Les Misérables, which will take place from 18th – 22nd March 2025.
Wilmslow Town Mayor, Councillor Tim Higgins, said, "Wilmslow Town Council are delighted to be able to support a local youth theatre production through our grant scheme.
"We heard through our recent Residents' Survey how important support for the youth is to Wilmslow residents, and TEMPO engages approximately 50 local young children in weekly musical theatre training, enabling them to acquire new skills and experience.
"Some of those who attended our recent Christmas lights switch-on will have watched TEMPO perform and seen how talented the cast are; we hope Wilmslow residents will support their upcoming production to make the most of a high-quality show in our town."
