Town centre pub to be renamed 'to reflect its history'

Plans have been submitted to rename a pub in Wilmslow town centre.

Greene King is intending to change the name of Anthology on Swan Street to the Swan Inn and has applied to install replacement all the signage.

At the end of last year, the company also submitted a planning application to enable them to carry out works in the beer garden.

A spokesperson for Greene King said “As part of a significant investment into improving the external beer terrace at the Anthology, we have also applied for new signage and are planning on changing the name of the pub to reflect its history.

"The pub was once called The Swan Hotel, and as it’s situated in Swan Street, changing its name to the Swan Inn is a nod to the pub’s heritage.”

The scheme includes erecting two "off the shelf" pergola structures along with a structure to carry an external TV and erect five steel posts to carry lighting.

Anthology is part of Greene King’s leased and tenanted division, Pub Partners.

This is great news. The Swan is one of our three original stage coach inns in the early Nineteenth Century. When the stage arrived from Manchester the fresh horses were brought out of the stables at the back and off they went to London and Birmingham. Well done everyone who joined the call for the return of the famous name!
