Royal London seek retrospective planning for war memorial

Royal London have submitted a retrospective full planning application for the erection of a cenotaph at their headquarters at Royal London House, Alderley Park.

The cenotaph is already in place to the front of Royal London House, having been relocated from their site in Wilmslow.

The war memorial was initially erected in the courtyard of the company's offices at the Refuge building in Manchester in November 1922. Since then it has followed the company to Wilmslow and now to Alderley Park where it was installed in December 2019.

Although located within the Green Belt, the application site is a hardstanding area of land within the Alderley Park Campus, an allocated site within the Cheshire East Local Plan Strategy (Policy LPS 61 – Alderley Park Opportunity Site).
