Cheshire East Council is asking local residents, businesses and visitors to the area to complete a short survey following reports concerning anti-social behaviour and performance vehicles travelling through and visiting Alderley Edge.
A spokesperson for Cheshire East Council said "Reports have included, loud revving of engines and engine noises, rapid acceleration from junctions and traffic lights, speeding and general exhibitionist behaviour from a minority driving these kinds of vehicles. We have also received reports around this behaviour being encouraged on the public highway by groups of individuals gathering whom wish to film/view the performance vehicles 'in action'.
"In addition to the above, we have also received reports of organised gatherings of performance vehicles nearby which has caused disruption to those wishing to use the highway and living/working/visiting the area.
"Whilst we appreciate that this behaviour is only being displayed by a minority of individuals; it has however come to our attention that this is potentially having a detrimental impact on those visiting, residing and working in the area. The noise created from the excessive revving and acceleration of these vehicles can be extremely loud and upsetting. More importantly, when performed on the public highway through towns/villages, this can also be very dangerous."
As a result the Council is considering options in relation to how this sort of behaviour can be tackled and as part of the process they are asking local residents, businesses and visitors to the area to complete the survey to enable them to look at the frequency of the reported behaviour and the impact it might be having.
A spokesperson said "We would also like to listen to your ideas as to how you might think this behaviour is best addressed or whether you think that this behaviour has any impact on you."
The closing date for completing the survey is Tuesday 1st September at 4pm.

Why would CEC conduct a survey to assess our attitude to law breaking?
The law is the law. Use a speed camera and deal with the drivers on the spot. After all, it’s what police do regularly. Why not now in AE or along the A34?
It does not need a CEC survey to deal with this, unless I’ve missed something.
As has been said, speeding is always illegal and wheel spinning must be dangerous driving.
It is an issue of enforcing existing laws.
We are to have yet another 'short survey'. why? The problem is all too loud and clear without yet another survey. All that is needed is to ask those police personnel on duty in Alderley & along the A34 by pass and Alderley Road a couple of weekends ago. This will save costs in producing a report, action is what us needed not endless survey reports that only means delaying obvious needed action.
Over any given period of months years exactly how many prosecutions have occurred ?
I suspect very few if any.
There are more important issues that truly affect people’s lives at this unique Covid led time.
It is known what the problem is, therefore sort it out p.d.q.
This is the opportunity for councillors and council to show that it & they deserve the voters support.

I fully appreciate the new Council needs to follow the correct process. I'm afraid I had become accustomed to the previous Conservative led regimes headed by both Clles Michael Jones and Rachel Bailey. I do appreciate the new council regime has changed for the better. I'm sorry that nasty old & historic habits die hard!
I would urge all Wilmslow respondents to this survey to state the case for Fulshaw Park's "Prohibition Of Entry Order" as Wilmslow & Fulshaw Park suffers from the very same source.
I add my pennyworth to the issue by stating the following in the hope that it might give a better understanding of the nature of the problem and certainly make the point that it isn't just a case of a few exhibitionist owners of naff flash cars creating a bit of entertainment in Alderley Edge high street. There are more annoying issues that could turn nasty and see people injured or killed, So please spare a few minutes to go through my posting.

It's from the USA but the car modifications are the same sort of thing that can be done to the noisy cars we hear on the A34. If you can't spare the time to watch all the way through to see what sort of 'Dudes' enjoy this way of having fun then just start the clip at 16mins 30secs which shows how the exhaust sounds AFTER it has been modified, purposely to make a noise that gets them excited but only disturbs the peace of everyone else.
So now do you understand? It is this sort of exhaust modification that makes the noise and is achieved by revving the engine to very high revs when still in a low gear. So driving purposely in the very low gears to keep the revs high and make a racket.
SAFETY: If anyone still thinks these sort of 'Dudes' accelerate modestly and DON'T see any road they are on as just a playground on which to have fun then please think again and if you really want more to make you think, have a look at this video.

Many of the cars are driving in the village in a sensible fashion and I am sure a few locals just going about their day also get featured but it is when some of them get on the A34 and can put their foot down that the cars make the racket that we can all hear throughout Wilmslow.
If the speed limit on the A34 was a controlled and monitored 40mph this noise generation would not be anything like as severe and the cars would eventually go off and find somewhere else to strut their stuff.
THAT IS WHY THE SPEED LIMIT NEEDS TO BE LOWERED TO 40mph. IT IS THE ONLY WAY THAT THIS EXHAUST RACKET ISSUE IS GOING TO BE SOLVED. WHY ARE THERE STILL PERSONS WHO DO NOT GET IT?
Finally, if you want to see how it can go horribly wrong elsewhere in the world, have a look here. Many of these clips show cars going quite slowly. The drivers just can't handle them and could be in Alderley Edge instead of some other small town. What is common however is that the cars are all rather expensive, with modifications to make them sound 'good' and all recorded at close quarters by young lads who like to be 'close to the action'. One day someone will be too close and the coroner will have a perfect recording of the event to summarise the exact cause of death.

There is a place however where these 'Dudes' can go to have some fun. It is in Germany and called the NÜRBURGRING. It's been featured on the 'clown' motoring show 'Top Gear'. I think Joe Public can take a car round the circuit as you can see in the video below. Perhaps you could if you were mad enough. I would suggest that all these boy racers round Wilmslow take their flash motors over there for a few laps and see how many cars [or driver Dudes] come home without a scratch! Makes poncing around in Wilmslow & Alderley Edge look like stuff for mamby pamby's. Go on 'Dudes' get over there and have a go at really pooing your pants.
