The Ryleys School has been awarded the highest possible inspection grade of 'Excellent' in all areas, an award which was judged by the Independent Schools Inspectorate following an inspection in February 2020.
After a rigorous three day inspection in which inspectors observed lessons, conducted formal interviews with pupils and staff and examined examples of pupils' work, the ISI awarded the school 'Excellent' in both areas of Personal Development and Quality of Pupils' Academic and Other Achievements.
The ISI inspectors reported that "Pupils enjoy high levels of achievement and success beyond the curriculum in a range of academic, sporting and performance areas." They continued to say, "Pupils achieve a high rate of success in gaining entry to their school of choice, including schools with highly selective entry criteria."
The Ryleys School places great importance on bespoke, individual learning which means that each child is always working towards individually set targets and children are regularly monitored for progress. The ISI reported that "Pupils communication skills are excellent. They speak confidently, read with good understanding and write fluently. Many pupils demonstrate a mastery of cursive script at an early age."
The ISI Inspectorate also judged The Ryleys School 'Excellent' for pupil Personal Development, the other main criteria of inspection. The school has numerous procedures in place to ensure that pupil personal development is at the top of the school's agenda.
Pupils at The Ryleys School benefit from an extensive outdoor learning area and over 35 extra- curricular clubs every week. There are also numerous opportunities to build confidence such as leadership roles and competing regionally and nationally in music, science and sports competitions, which all contributes to "Pupils displaying high levels of self-knowledge, self-esteem, self-confidence and self-discipline."
Inspectors also reported, "Pupils show high levels of development of their resilience, problem solving capabilities, risk taking awareness and independence." These are all skills that along with high academic achievement will ensure that pupils are prepared to take full advantage of all that will be on offer to them as they move into the next stage of their academic life and beyond into their chosen careers.
Head Teacher, Mrs Julia Langford, said: "This is a fantastic and well-deserved outcome for the whole school community which continually strives to achieve excellence for all pupils. The result is testament to the dedication of highly professional staff and the high standard of education which the pupils benefit from on a daily basis. We are delighted that this has been validated by an independent, professional body."
Additionally, the Ryleys School Early Years department has been judged 'Outstanding' in a recent three day inspection by the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI).
The ISI inspection, which took place in February 2020, judged all five areas of the The Ryleys School Early Years as 'Outstanding' including the overall quality and effectiveness of the Early Years, the quality of education, the behaviour and attitudes, personal development and leadership and management.
The school's Early Years' success replicates the school's main objective and ethos, which is its ability to blend high academic achievement along with the happiness and well-being of every child. ISI reported that "leaders plan a highly effective curriculum that meets the age stage and needs of the children." They went on to say that "children's personal and emotional development is a strength of the setting."
The Ryleys School Early Years provides a bespoke education for its Early Years pupils and children benefit from individually set targets with bespoke planning for each child. The ISI said that, "Practitioners plan activities to engage, support and extend their learning to ensure their progress," and that "every child is supported."
Pupils in The Ryleys Early Years benefit from high standards of teaching delivered by fully qualified teachers and highly qualified support staff. The ISI reported that children enjoy a "highly effective and wide-ranging curriculum." The Ryleys Early Years follows the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum as a guide but goes beyond this with the ISI reporting that "Staff adeptly enhance play opportunities to engage children's skills," and the staff support and "extend their language skills and vocabulary and children readily initiate interactions with each other and staff."
Head Teacher, Mrs Julia Langford, said: "We are absolutely delighted with the ISI Inspection for our Early Years Department. We have an excellent team of staff who have a clear and ambitious vision for the setting as well as high expectations for the children. The setting is an extremely happy place with a wide range of opportunities for the children to take part in, including specialist classes in French, Music, P.E and swimming for our 3 to 4 year olds."
"The Ryleys Early Years success has been echoed by parents and we are currently oversubscribed in all rooms. We are now in a position where parents are required to book up to a year in advance for a place and up to two years for a full time place. We couldn't be happier with the ISI outcome and look forward to enjoying the school's success with pupils, parents and staff for many years to come."
