Budding photographer snaps up first prize

Bethany, a year 5 student from Lacey Green Primary Academy, has been announced as Cheshire School's Junior Photographer for 2019.

All the children in Year 5 have been learning about photography and image editing in computing lessons at school and each child selected their best photograph to be submitted to the competition organised by Alderley Edge School for Girls.

The competition received around 100 entries from schools across the county and judges chose 20 winning photographers to participate in a day of activities at AESG.

Adam Jenkins, computing coordinator at Lacey Green Primary Academy, said "We were thrilled to discover that 9 of our students were among the 20 winners invited to AESG for a full photography day.

"The day started with a morning of light painting - a photography technique where the children used handheld lights to paint or draw a scene while the shutter of the camera was left open during a long exposure photograph. The children were amazed at some of the effects they were able to create and to complete the morning they worked in two teams to construct a full ocean-themed image.

"During the afternoon, the children were taught about composition and experimented with a variety of arrangements of sea shells, before editing their images and applying a range of filters to enhance them.

"After a fantastic day, it was lovely to see Bethany announced as the overall winner. We are very thankful to Alderley Edge School for Girls, and in particular, Mrs Billington and Mrs Halgarth, who organised such an enjoyable event."

Aysha, Darcie, Joe, Lottie, Mabel, Mia, Seb, and Vincent from Lacey Green Primary Academy were also shortlisted photographers.
