Handforth gets set to switch Christmas lights on

This year Handforth is building up for a bigger and better Christmas lights switch on event to mark the start of the festive celebrations.

Organised by Handforth Parish Council this free event will take place on Saturday, 3rd December, at the Paddock.

Ashley explained "We are holding a mini Christmas market from 11am to 5pm with hot drinks, mince pies, face painting and more!

"Additionally the model trains in Meriton Road Park will be running on the day with kind thanks to the Handforth Model Engineering Society."

Entertainment will include a performance by Acto De Clase at 2.30pm and YSBD Theatre Academy at 3.30pm followed by the warm up to the Christmas lights switch on starting at 4.15pm.

Local school children were invited to enter a competition by designing a poster, Christmas card or letter to Santa. The winner was Lola Harrison aged 6, who will get to press the button to switch on the Christmas lights assisted by Helena Vale (aged 5) who came second and Rohan Kumar (aged 8). They will also be joined by Lauren King (aged 7) who wrote a poem which she will read out before the lights are switched on at 4.30pm.
